The son of Nigeria’s first Finance Minister and former Regent of the Warri Kingdom, Prince Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh, has called on the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to quickly intervene on the Urhobo/Itsekiri’s renewed crises before it gets escalated and out of hand.
Speaking to journalists in Warri, Delta State, Prince Okotie-Eboh said the state and federal government should as a matter of urgency wade into the Urhobo/Itsekiri renewed crises to avoid bloodshed and destruction of property that has brought Warri into the state it is now.
While calling on the two warring factions to shield their swords, Prince Okotie-Eboh said going into memory lane of the past Urhobo/Itsekiri/Ijaw crises that collapsed activities in the rich Oil City that was brought to nothing with severe disrupted oil production and deep economic wounds should not be allowed to happen.
Okotie-Eboh who lamented while speaking said the injuries done to the city of Warri then over the crrises is still very fresh in the eyes and minds, hence the calls on the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently wade into the crises.
While urging the state and federal government not to politicize the Urhobo/Itsekiri renewed crises, Okotie-Eboh charged government to bring to book those whose sources of income lies on the crises in warri, encouraging the youths to destroy, kill and maim without considering the effects the consequences it will create in the then bubbling oil city of Warri.
Okotie-Eboh has appealed to leaders and stakeholders of both ethnic nationalities to call their wards to order, saying there is no level of masquerading that those behind the crises are known and they should be stopped or made to face the wrought of the land or government whether Urhobo or Itsekiri.
He said the Urhobos and the ltsekiris are neighbours and iner-marriied, living together as wives, husbands, brothers, sisters and even uncles and aunties, yet fighting each other day in, day out with disturbing signals and beating the drum of war and nobody is saying anything about it.
While appealing for calm between the Urhobo and Itsekiri to give peace a chance, Okotie-Eboh said no no reasonable person would want to kill the child he claims he love so much, “If we claim to love Warri so much, why the desire and plans to destroy it.” let us keep Warri clean give room for rapid developments and not violence.
