Dafinone Secures Strong APC Backing, Declares Bid for Second Term in 2027 Senator Ede Dafinone has formally declared his intention to seek re-election for Delta Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, securing unanimous endorsement from key leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the region. The declaration, held in Ughelli, drew prominent party figures including O’tega Emerhor, Ighoyota Amori, and Koyoyo Uhrorho, alongside stakeholders from the eight local government areas of Delta Central. Backed by a broad coalition of party leaders, Dafinone’s candidacy was adopted as a consensus choice, with leaders affirming he would emerge as the APC flagbearer either through direct primaries or consensus. In his address, Dafinone pledged to consolidate on his first-term achievements and intensify efforts in economic development, youth empowerment, education, and infrastructure. He said his decision followed wide consultations and reflection, emphasizing that his leadership remains focused on “measurable results and people-centred representation.” Highlighting his record, the lawmaker cited interventions in infrastructure, healthcare, and education, including transformer installations, ICT centres, medical outreach programmes, and advocacy for major projects such as the Sapele Seaport revitalisation and railway expansion. He also referenced legislative efforts and his role in resolving the Okuama crisis. Dafinone commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for infrastructural development, stressing the importance of alignment across all levels of government. In a major political boost, Emerhor announced his withdrawal from the Delta Central race, pledging full support for Dafinone’s re-election. Similarly, Amori, a former rival in the 2023 election, endorsed the senator, citing his performance at the National Assembly as justification for a second term. Other party leaders, including John Oguma and Paulinus Akpeki, urged voters to support APC candidates across all levels in 2027, describing Dafinone’s endorsement as a strategic move to strengthen party unity and continuity in the district. Dafinone concluded by urging constituents to assess his performance and renew his mandate, stating that leadership remains “a trust bestowed by the people.”
