Ughelli – In a decisive move to restore environmental hygiene and public health, the Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun Barr. Jaro Movudu Egbo, KSC, has announced a Special Sanitation Exercise across the entire local government area. The exercise, scheduled to hold on Thursday, 30th October, 2025, will take place between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

According to the directive, all residents, business owners, shop operators, market men and women, and community leaders are expected to fully participate in the sanitation campaign. The Chairman emphasised that during the period of the exercise, all shops, markets, and business environments must remain closed to ensure maximum compliance and participation.

This initiative, the council noted, is aimed at promoting a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment, as indiscriminate waste disposal and poor sanitation have continued to threaten public health in various communities. Residents are therefore urged to clean and evacuate all waste, refuse, and debris from their homes, streets, and business premises.

However, essential service providers such as Hospitals, Clinics, Banks, and other Financial Institutions have been exempted from the restriction to ensure that critical services remain uninterrupted during the sanitation period. The Chairman maintained that the exercise is not merely an official policy but a moral duty that demands collective responsibility.

To guarantee strict adherence, security agencies within Ughelli North have been directed to collaborate with mobile courts strategically stationed across the area. These enforcement teams will ensure compliance, and anyone found violating the directive will face the full weight of the law.

The Executive Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to environmental cleanliness and public welfare, insisting that cleanliness is not a choice but a necessity. He urged all residents to embrace the spirit of communal responsibility, stressing that a cleaner Ughelli North is a shared vision for a healthier future.
