An indigene of Ovu Community, Ethiope East local government area of Delta state, Mr. Vincent Aki, has raised alarm following an alleged threats to his life and family by the Council Chairman, Hon. Augustine Ogedegbe for posting the poor state of Warri street in Oviorie-Ovu.
Mr. Vincent Aki, had recently published on Facebook that has generated a lot of reactions from within and outside the community on the poor state of road in Warri street Oviorie-Ovu, and was shared through video in several media platforms.
Aki in his Facebook page late yesterday, Wednesday, alleging that the Ethiope East Council boss, Ogedegbe warned him and his family to stop discussing his administration in the public, threatening to smear life from him and his family if he refused to comply and drop the post.
“My life is under threat. The Ethiope East Council Chairman came to warn me and my family yesterday Wednesday night that if I refuse to drop those videos, he will deal with me and my entire family for highlighting the ,state of our road in Oviorie-Ovu”.
“This is just the problem of politics. You can’t just advocate for good governance. Once you do, you become an enemy of the government. May God help us all. “My advocacy for good governance and infrastructure is my right as citizen but I am highly disappointed in Ogedegbe’s leadership on threat to my life for freedom of expression”.
He further noted, “It may seem like a personal attack, but it stems from my lack of satisfaction with his service to the constituents. The Ethiope East Council Chairman is in a position of power, closest to the Governor in Ovu community, and should be addressing these issues rather than threatening those who bring them to light.”
Aki insists that his life and that of his family are in danger, calling on the public to hold Ogedegbe accountable should anything happen to them. “I have never seen a council chairman intimidate and threaten citizens advocating for good governance. This is preposterous.
Aki appealed to Gov Oborevwori to intervene and call Ogedegbe to order for if anything happens to him, his wife, children and his entire family, he will be held responsible and should be directed to do the needful instead of going after the lives of good citizens who are advocating for change.
He said other Council Chairmen are working to improve their communities, and that Ogedegbe should follow suit rather than threatening people who are genuinely advocating for good governance.
When contacted, the Ethiope East Council Chairman, Mr. Augustine Ogedegbe through a text message denied allegations, saying, “I didn’t threaten him, and I will not threaten him, he has been dragging me online for nothing, I don’t have any issues with him and I don’t know who pays him to blackmail me”
