The Ethiope East Sub-Revenue Committee Chairman has been relieved of duty following his alleged fraudulent act in the sudden increment of Revenue Price on Caravan Users.

This followed a publication made by the Watchman online, alerting the general public of the pains traders of Ethiope East has been put into over the 50% levy on traders.

The Council through the Secretary of the local government, however, issued a statement, revealing that the Sub-Revenue Committee Chairman fraudulently forged the Council’s stamp and the Treasurer’s signature to issue an illegal demand notice.

The statement reads; “The Ethiope East Local Government Council wishes to inform the public that the appointment of Mr. Victory Oghenero Igbasun the Sub-Revenue Committee Chairman on Abraka Caravan responsible for the unauthorized caravan levy demand has been terminated with immediate effect.”

Investigations have revealed that the official caravan levy, as stated in the Ethiope East Bye-Law Rate/Levy, is ₦5,000 per Annum.

However, the Sub-Committee Chairman unilaterally increased it to ₦80,000 without consulting the Council.

Additionally, he fraudulently forged the Council’s stamp and the Treasurer’s signature to issue an illegal demand notice.

The Council strongly condemns this act of fraud and misrepresentation.

Appropriate legal action will be taken against Him and all those involved to serve as a deterrent to others.

Furthermore, to ensure transparency and prevent future occurrences, the Council will publish all approved levies as stated in the Bye-Laws for public awareness.

We urge the public to disregard any unauthorized levies and ensure that all payments are made through the Council’s approved channels.

For further clarifications, concerned parties should contact the relevant Council offices.

The Ethiope East Local Government Council remains committed to transparency, accountability, and due process in all its operations.
