• Dissolution of Ughelli North Parks Revenue Committee: Council Chairman Egbo Lied, We’ve Remitted All Money Due To Council – Egoide, Committee Chair

 

*Alleges council chairman, Egbo’s action due to his desire to manipulate Uduere’s election

The recent dissolution of the executive of Ughelli Public Motor Parks Committee by the Ughelli North Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Barr. Jaro Egbo has been described as the brazen effort of the Council Boss to “give a dog a bad name in order to hang it”.

The chairman of the Ughelli North Public Motor Parks Revenue Committee, Hon. Chief Gowon Egoide made this assertion recently while fielding questions from newsmen in Uduere Community, Ughelli North LGA, in response to the Council chairman’s allegation that the Committee was dissolved because of its failure to meet up with its terms of agreement in remittance of money that is due to the treasury of the Council.

Chief Egoide stated that the Committee in which he serves as the chairman did not owe any dime in terms of the money the Committee was expected to remit to the Local Government Council.

He contended that the action of the Council chairman in dissolving the Public Motor Park Revenue Committee was not only premeditated, but actually borne out of a vendetta, following the refusal of Chief Egoide who is also the chairman of Uduere Community, to support Hon. Jaro Egbo’s interest in who becomes the next chairman in Uduere Youths election.

“I have been remitting; all receipts are intact. I’m not owing the Council a dime. What I’m supposed to pay to the Council Treasury as the chairman of the Committee, I have done my part. I’ve paid all fees till date. If he wants clarification, the receipts are there.

“Even his instruction for me to be paying him personally the sum of N350,000 every month I have also been paying him without any option. So, I wonder why he is saying that he dissolved the Committee because I failed to pay money into the Council treasury. He cannot spoil my name.

“Jaro was my boss, I have been carrying out a lot of instructions he gives to me but for this one which he wants to manipulate Uduere’s leaders, elders and youth election, I will not agree with him. He should respect the decision of the elders. Whether Jaro likes it or not, I will not succumb to him”, He just want to use his power so that everybody will succumb to him but that cannot work. Hon. Egoide said.

He also recalled that he worked for him and has been supporting him, adding that even when his hotel was burnt during the 2023 election, Jaro Egbo did not do anything for him.

“I have been supporting Jaro Egbo. Even when my hotel was burnt and my children arrested during the election, Jaro Egbo was not there for me. Even when his own property was burnt I was the one who stood by him in Asaba.

“Whether he has all the power and all it takes to bring me down, I’m saying vividly that Jaro Egbo whom I fought for, cannot bring me down because he has erred in many ways. He has no respect for elders of Uduere Community, he has no respect even for the elders of Abovbe quarters where we both hail from. Jaro should be suspended from the Abovbe meetings”, he said

Egoide further added that “His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori should know that we love him. We are behind him. We will continue to work with him and deliver him just as we did in 2023, and Egbo is paying back with ingratitude”, Hon. Gowon Egoide concluded. He call on the Governor to call Jaro Egbo to order and to tell him to stop disrespecting elders and leaders of Ughelli North as a Council Chairman.

Also speaking in the same vein, a youth leader leader from the community also clarified that the issue that is “bringing this action is a community matter based on youth election. The youth leadership in Uduere is rotational among three quarters of Abovbe, Achogho and Eyavbie.

According to him, the Council chairman, Egbo is from Abovbe quarter and he has made his younger brother the Secretary of the youth already. Now, the chairman is zoned to Eyavbie which is a different quarter and it is their turn to produce the youth chairman. But the problem now is that the Local Government chairman is insisting he must endorse his choice to become the youth chairman from Eyavbie quarter of which the elders of the quarter are saying no. The Council chairman is now trying to force the Public Motor Park Committee chairman, Hon. Chief Gowon Egoide to prevail on the elders of Eyavbie quarter to accept his choice as the youth chairman but he has refused. This is why he has dissolved the executive of the Motor Park Committee.”

A very reliable source also disclosed to our correspondent that the chairman’s dissolution of the executive of the committee has nothing to do with an alleged inability to meet the terms of condition it had with the Council.
