Delta State Director General (DG) Security, Hon. David Tonwe has responded to reports leading to the death of young lady, that a vehicle was sighted on the road without a registration number.
The patrol team at a checkpoint attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, in a reckless manner, refused to comply and speed off. The patrol team quickly signalled the next patrol team to stop him, the driver refused to stop at the second check point and in the process, he nearly knocked down a naval officer on duty while he drove the vehicle over his leg and the office opened fire.
It is important to state clearly that Operation Delta Sweep did not kill any pregnant woman. During the attempt to stop the said vehicle, the officer at the checkpoint opened fire, and unfortunately, a stray bullet struck a young lady who was sitting at the passenger’s seat of the vehicle.
The victim was immediately rushed to a private hospital by the officers, but did not get the need attention before she was rushed to Eku Hospital, as confirmed by the Officer in Charge of Abraka Police Station. At the time of this report, doctors have not confirmed whether the young lady is pregnant or not.
Delta State DG security, Hon David Tonwe, therefore urge the public to disregard the misinformation circulating online suggesting that a pregnant woman was killed by Operation Delta Sweep in Abraka. The incident is under investigation, and further updates will be communicated as necessary
