The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed deep sympathy for the victims of the recent flooding in Agbor, while sharply criticizing the state government for what it calls gross negligence and failure to address the recurring crisis.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the party lamented the devastation caused by the flood, which left homes submerged and livelihoods destroyed. The APC accused the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration of financial mismanagement, alleging that despite claims of significant investments in flood control, Agbor and other communities remain vulnerable to seasonal disasters.
“For years, the Delta State Government has boasted of spending billions on flood control, yet Agbor is now submerged. This disaster is not just natural—it is the result of the government’s incompetence and disconnect from the people,” the statement read.
The APC cited a recent Sahara Reporters exposé, which alleged that of the over ₦700 million budgeted for flood control in the state last year, only ₦150 million was spent. The party criticized State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, for what it called “empty rhetoric” instead of concrete action.
As the rainy season begins, the APC called on the state government to provide emergency relief for affected residents and implement lasting flood prevention measures. “The time for excuses is over,” the party declared, vowing to hold the administration accountable.
With flood risks looming, the opposition party urged immediate action to prevent further loss and suffering, reaffirming its commitment to standing with the people of Agbor and other affected communities.
