Akpimegi, UDU PG Tasks Ughelli Communities on Fight Against Drug Abuse

The President-General of Ughelli Descendants Union (UDU), Chief Barr. Samuel Akpimegi, JP, has called on all the 23 communities that make up Ughelli Kingdom to unite in the fight against anti-social vices, particularly drug abuse. He stressed the urgent need for collective action in order to safeguard the future of the kingdom.

Chief Akpimegi, who made this appeal in Ughelli, charged the youths to abstain from drugs, cultism, armed robbery, and child trafficking. According to him, such vices remain the major stumbling blocks to peace, development, and the overall progress of Ughelli Kingdom.

The UDU President-General commended the efforts of Ughelli North Council Chairman, Chief Barr. Jaro Omovudu Egbo, for his contributions towards making Ughelli safer and more habitable for residents. He also hailed the new Area Command for their interventions in ensuring security within the region.

He further expressed appreciation to His Royal Majesty, Oharisi III, for his fatherly guidance, royal counsel, and unwavering confidence in his leadership as the President-General of the UDU. Chief Akpimegi noted that the monarch’s support has been instrumental in fostering unity across the kingdom.

In the same vein, he acknowledged and appreciated Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, describing him as a long-standing friend and ally of the Ughelli people. He emphasized the need for stakeholders and leaders to sustain such partnerships in the interest of peace and development.

Speaking on cultural heritage, Chief Akpimegi urged all residents of Ughelli to brace up for the forthcoming Ughelli Kingdom Festival. He noted that preparations are in top gear and encouraged everyone to participate fully, adding that the event will showcase the rich cultural values and traditions of the Ughelli people.

The UDU President-General also appealed to journalists operating within Ughelli and beyond to join hands with the union in raising awareness and amplifying campaigns against drug abuse. He maintained that the media plays a crucial role in sensitization and in driving positive change across society.
