The situation in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State has reached a boiling point, with residents voicing their despair over worsening road conditions. Residents have expressed a growing resentment towards Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, accusing his administration of neglecting essential infrastructural maintenance.
Critical thoroughfares, including those at Wood Market Close to Express Junction, Cross and Stop Junction, Otor-Udu/Jeremi Junction, Igbiki Market, Asjam Hotel Junction, Daddies Bakery Junction, and the roads leading to DSC Police Station/Flyover and Okpaka community, have fallen into disrepair.
Motorists are now struggling to navigate these roads as potholes and gullies have made them increasingly hazardous, leading to vehicle damages and frustrating daily commutes.
Community members specifically criticized the state government for failing to approve the resurfacing of these essential roads, perceiving this lack of action as a disregard for their well-being. They issued a warning that their votes in upcoming elections cannot be taken for granted, emphasizing that positive action must be demonstrated by the governor to earn their support.
“If the governor thinks he can continue to ignore us, he is mistaken,” declared a representative voice from the community. They demanded that immediate action be taken to repair not just the highlighted roads but also to construct the Okpaka community road and address the deteriorating ECM road, which poses significant risks to residents.
The residents voiced their frustration with the Delta State Government and the Commissioner for Works Rural Development, stressing that the ongoing neglect of road infrastructure further exacerbates their miseries, affecting businesses and daily activities.
A frustrated commercial driver shared, “We cannot continue like this. Our vehicles are being destroyed daily, businesses are suffering, and people are facing untold hardship just trying to go about their normal activities.”
The Udu community is calling urgently on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Commissioner for Works Rural Development, to acknowledge their grievances and prioritize the resurfacing and construction of local roads. The residents of Udu hope that their pleas will be addressed promptly, as they deserve leadership that reflects genuine concern for their welfare.
